MOV അനന്തരം ശൌൽ ദാവീദിനോടു: എന്റെ മൂത്ത മകൾ മേരബുണ്ടല്ലോ; ഞാൻ അവളെ നിനക്കു ഭാര്യയായി തരും; നീ ശൂരനായി എനിക്കുവേണ്ടി യഹോവയുടെ യുദ്ധങ്ങൾ നടത്തിയാൽ മതി എന്നു പറഞ്ഞു. എന്റെ കയ്യല്ല ഫെലിസ്ത്യരുടെ കൈ അവന്റെമേൽ വീഴുവാൻ സംഗതിവരട്ടെ എന്നു ശൌൽ വിചാരിച്ചു.
KJV And Saul said to David, Behold my elder daughter Merab, her will I give thee to wife: only be thou valiant for me, and fight the LORD’S battles. For Saul said, Let not mine hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.
YLT And Saul saith unto David, `Lo, my elder daughter Merab -- her I give to thee for a wife; only, be to me for a son of valour, and fight the battles of Jehovah;` and Saul said, `Let not my hand be on him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him.`

RSV Then Saul said to David, "Here is my elder daughter Merab; I will give her to you for a wife; only be valiant for me and fight the LORDS battles." For Saul thought, "Let not my hand be upon him, but let the hand of the Philistines be upon him."

ESV Then Saul said to David, "Here is my elder daughter Merab. I will give her to you for a wife. Only be valiant for me and fight the LORD's battles." For Saul thought, "Let not my hand be against him, but let the hand of the Philistines be against him."
ERVEN One day, Saul said to David, "Here is my oldest daughter, Merab. I will let you marry her. Then you will be like a son to me and you will be a real soldier. Then you will go and fight the Lord's battles." Saul was really thinking, "Now I won't have to kill David. I will let the Philistines kill him for me."
